Qualifying Events
Making Changes Due to Qualifying Events
Life changes quickly for all of us and we need to make sure we have all of our important information up to date as much as possible. Normally we cannot make changes to our health and supplemental insurance until Open Enrollment each year but there are certain events that will allow you to make changes during the year.
Qualifying events may include:
- Marriage/Divorce/Death
- Birth or Adoption
- Gain or loss of coverage
- Change in Tobacco status
- Being Newly hired
You have 31 days from your hire date or qualifying event date to go online or call to enroll in coverage.
Considerations for Qualifying Event
SHBP
You will need to call SHBP (1-800-610-1863) to make any changes or log on to their website: mySHBPga.adp.com
If you are a new hire and need to enroll in coverage, you will click on “Register Here” and enter the SHBP Registration Code: SHBP-GA. You will then follow the steps to create your user name and password.
GA Breeze
Call 1-877-342-7339 to update any coverage for vision, dental, life insurance, short term disability, long term disability, legal, etc. when you have a qualifying event. In the event of a death, you will need to call 1-800-821-6400.
TRS
Check your TRS beneficiary and make sure it is up-to-date. As required by Georgia law, TRS must pay remaining benefits at the time of death based on the latest designation in your TRS file. Wills, marriage licenses, divorce decrees, life insurance policies or other documents cannot be used to determine your beneficiary so make sure that your TRS designations are correct.
